I was just speaking with a friend of mine about our experiences with city buses passing us by. Things have improved, but as you can see by this NY Times article there are still pockets of resistance by drivers who would rather not be bothered. It's cool to see my old coworkers at the Queens Independent Living Center (QILC) are not afraid to mix it up a bit. And finally, some News coverage! Whew, Whew! ( registration required at the Times)

It's great to see the all the attention the Special Olympics has been given this year.
BBC SPORT | Other Sport | Disability Sport | Special Olympics begin It would be great to see it televised just like the Paralympics. A&E did a splendid job last year. We need to watch things that are inspirational. It would be reality TV I believe people would tune-in to and enjoy. I definitely would.

Roger Clemens has finally done it. 300 Victories! It's incredible! Last night, the former Yankee nemesis strikes out 10 becoming just the 21st pitcher in baseball history to win 300 games. What makes it even more special is he also becomes the third pitcher in baseball history to notch 4,000 strike outs. Another magical moment at Yankee Stadium. The 21st century is here and it appears there's no sign of let up to that Yankee magic any time soon.

A restaurant that's silent, except for the occasional laughter, that is. Hmmm. This Guardian Unlimited | Hushed reception for the Café des Signes article shows why there's little reason for noise while you're munching.

PEOPLE BEWARE !Greens glum on World Environment Day
I'm posting this article because I believe most people are uninformed about environmental crises (either because they don't want to believe what the "World Conservation Union" - and the like - says about the subject, or they mistakenly think that the extinction of species, global warming, etc., won't affect their lives).
Just read this portion from article:

In its latest update on species numbers, the IUCN said the world was faced with a "major extinction crisis", mainly due to the disappearance of endangered species' habitat.

One mammal species in four and every reptile and amphibian species in three are threatened with being wiped out. In all, 5 500 animal species and 34 000 species of flora are considered at risk.

The article points out many more things that people should not only be aware of, but should find ways to get involved and do something to raise awareness. Upsetting the Earth's balance will have dire consequences impossible to recover from.

This article by Wired News: Working Remotely, Robots in Place talks about using robots as surrogates so that people who cannot show up for meetings can still participate. This can be a great thing for pwd (people with disabilities) who may have some difficulty with traveling.
