Wired News: Protesters Take Capitol by Phone Does this mean Americans really want to get involved? I hope so. The "people" still have the power to effect change. Power to the people, right on!

ABCNEWS.com : Daredevil Not Quite the Blind Man's Hero Daredevil may not be the blind man's Superhero, but he is a Superhero who happens to be blind. Sure, he doesn't need super powers to be self-sufficient, but, lets face it, this is a movie about a Superhero. It's all good.
I believe movies like these will spawn more movies about real people who are blind, and about people with all kinds of disabilities. Have you ever seen the portrayal of Helen Keller by the well-known actress, Patty Duke? Talk about a movie! I have no doubts about the possibility that good films can and will be made in the future. Call me an optimist.
Denver Post.com - Sponsors flock to disabled team What a great example of the benefits corporate sponsorship can have on disability sports. This can definitely lead to the "turning around" of attitudes toward people with disabilities as well.
From article: "SkiTAM is the signature event of CTAM of the Rocky Mountains, a division of the Cable and Telecommunications Association for Marketing. The business leaders who rally with the athletes during SkiTAM develop long-term relationships that carry into business practices".

BBC NEWS | Technology | Brother's pain over online 'suicide' Just had to blog this story. For brother Rich, I, too, share your anger. This was a tragedy that didn't have to happen. Those involved should be held accountable.
BBC NEWS | Health | 'I rely on touch to diagnose my patients' Vicki Sheen is another example of someone (quite capable as a physiotherapist) dispelling the myths.

Unspeakable Conversations If you have the time, this ten page article is worth reading. Harriet McBryde Johnson, a lawyer who practices in Charleston, SC, is the perfect anti-Peter Singer. What an honor it would be to meet someone with her wonderful sense of self. She has it all together. (NY Times requires registration)
Wired News: Google Blogging Right Along Blog? What's a blog? Great stuff.

Federal Agencies Lax on Disability Act, Report Says (washingtonpost.com) Quote from article-- "Without effective enforcement and program initiatives, the federal government remains complicit in advancing disability discrimination," the report said. For anyone who believes that people with disabilities only imagine they are victims of discrimination, this article is for you.

Yahoo! News - Ala. Quadriplegic Wins Extended Home Care It's great to know there are people like Nick Dupree in the world to show that one person CAN fight injustice in the "system".

BBC NEWS | Technology | Space technology helps the blind I can't wait to see how this satellite navigation system works. Again, technology keeps it coming!
Blind actors overcome limitations | csmonitor.com Tell me something I don't know. This is yet another example of the way in which people with disabilities show what they are capable of, dispelling myths along the way. Tell all of your friends!
New Scientist Another fascinating read about a possible way of treating colon cancer.
New Scientist Fascinating read.

Wired News: Flying in the Face of Infertility

Comparing animal genes to those of humans is a field of research called comparative genomics. Researchers all over the world are mapping the genome sequences of the chimp, mouse, rat, fruit fly, nematode worm and at least two types of pufferfish in order to discover the secrets of evolution and disease.
Capping Attorney Fees (washingtonpost.com) You never know who's right and who's wrong in these situations. One thing is for sure, the bureaucracy behind all of this usually means the children are the ones who lose out. It's pretty sad.

Reviving Romance With Space, Even as 'Space Age' Fades (ny times requires registration)-- Here's an article with a different way of looking at Space Exploration than the previous Time article I posted.
Wired News: TiVo: The Rise of 'God's Machine' I want my TiVo! Interesting read.
Wired News: AOL to Subscribers: Don't Leave! That reminds me, I need to call today to cancel my subscription. Time Warner Cable is next on my subscription canceling list. Tired of paying too much for television.
Wired News: Net Helps Folkies Play Home Gigs For anyone who loves folk music, this is a great way to hear it.
ArabNews: Wanted: A better deal for the Kingdom’s disabled Is it too much to ask that people with disabilities be treated well and allowed to participate in their own culture and society? At least the Saudi Government is moving in that direction. Happily, thanks to some philanthropists, the Disabled Children Association (DCA) is stepping in. Maybe more organizations will help change things in the future.
TIME.com: The Space Shuttle Must Be Stopped -- Feb. 10, 2003 An extremely enlightening article. This is a must read!
Wired News: Net Widens Phone Options for Deaf Technology just keeps on going. Oh, to be able to order a pizza with no problem. Wow!

RollingStone.com I can just imagine what it must be like combing through all these lost Beatles tapes. I'd be as giddy as a child with a crush on a school girl! If you're a Beatles fan, this article will fascinate you. Enjoy!

New Scientist Science just keeps rolling along. If this fetal tissue transplant turns out to be successful, it could restore sight to millions! Very interesting read.
New Scientist Kasparov is only human after all. Score one for Deep Junior. Computer chess programs can take advantage of human mistakes and Deep Junior surely did on this occasion. Wait a minute! Aren't computers programmed by humans? Well, then, whether its Deep Junior or Kasparov, we all win.
New Scientist It's not a win for the human race, but forcing the computer into a draw is still pretty good.
New Scientist Score one for the human race!
Yahoo! News - U.S. disabled dancers create new world of movement I am someone who once danced better than I walked (between ages four and eight). This is a wonderful story that needs to be told. Just as the athletes in the paralympics and disability sports in general--people only need to be exposed to these amazing venues before the public is converted. Sponsor dance companies and disability sports and the people will come.
Wired News: Of Pawns, Knights, Bits, Bytes This should be interesting. Man against machine. Classic!
